Rather than acting as an internet-wide search facility, W/A instead draws upon a combination of the content/material from the WWW and in-built expert-level knowledge and algorithms to answer questions. Users submit queries and computation requests via a text field, and Wolfram Alpha then computes answers and relevant visualizations from a knowledge base of curated and structured data; so rather than analysing a query and returning a list of websites based on relevance, W/A analyses content from a number of sources and attempts to answer the query in this regard. W/A is a fascinating and incredibly powerful tool with huge applicability and possibilities.
